Jump Start Summer Reading with Macmillan
It's that time of year again! Every summer, my daughters and I participate in our own summer reading program - we each set a goal of how many books we want to read over the summer {I picked 75, Peyton - 15, Little Miss Lo - 20, and Kenziekins chose 25 (this year she'll be reading some on her own and then we'll help her reach her goal by reading to her as well}. The person who meets their goal first will get the ultimate bragging rights and I'll buy them a book of their choice when the competition ends {right before they go back to school on August 7}. Here are a few selections from Macmillan that we've added to London and Kenzie's TBR stack! {Books provided for review/feature consideration}

As much as we’d like to, there’s no way to completely shield our children from all change, conflict, and grief. The truth is, there’s so much beauty in the world often overshadowed by the “scary” that it’s more important than ever that we teach our kids how to confidently grow in the face of challenge.

PHOENIX RISING by Bryony Pearce (1/17/16, pirate action and adventure, ages 10+): For as long as Toby can remember, he and his father have sailed on the Phoenix, salvaging from the junk-filled seas to stay afloat, while keeping under the radar of the authorities. Ayla is second-in-command on the rival Banshee, where she’s trained her whole life to fight. Since childhood, Ayla’s been taught the Phoenix must be destroyed. And now they have the ship in their sights. And they’re desperate to have their precious intel, too. But Toby’s sick of a life at sea, and Ayla may be his only hope. How To Raise Thrifty And Generous Teenagers
Book provided for review/feature consideration |
From piggy banks to that first savings account, many children are taught the value of saving from an early age.
But as they grow to adolescence, following parental advice sometimes gives way to peer or media influences, and those once-thrifty children are now teenagers in a consumer-driven world where spending, not saving, is king.

5 Ways to Thrive in the Midst of Challenge and Despair from Donna Stoneham, Ph.D. (Author of The Thriver's Edge)
Book provided for review/feature consideration |
It’s easier to thrive when things are going well. It’s much harder to flourish in times of challenge or despair. The past nine-months have been particularly challenging for many as alarming events have unfolded at a pace never experienced before, including multiple terrorist attacks, the plight of refugees, black lives cut short, and police officers murdered. Add to that the most divisive US Presidential election ever and at times it feels as though things are spinning out of control.
