One day of the year in particular really stands out to most kids. It’s something that they look forward to year-round and get really excited about in the lead up to the big day. The event? Their birthday. Now, birthdays are celebrated in different ways around the world and across different cultures. But if you do celebrate birthdays, chances are, you’re going to want your little one’s next one to be the best possible. There are many traditions, but one of the most common and most popular is hosting some sort of birthday party or celebration for your little one. Again, in this element of birthdays alone, there is neverending choice. Cinema, safari park, swimming pool, hired venue… the list goes on. But for many parents, their home remains a solid choice for a kid’s party. So, if this is something that you’re taking into consideration, here are a few tips and tricks that can help you to plan and host the perfect event!
The Benefits of Hosting at Home
There are so many benefits that come with hosting a kids party at home. First and foremost is cost. Hosting at home means you get a venue that comes completely free of charge. You don’t have to pay a hiring fee or for a package. Instead, you can save a lot of money. Another benefit of hosting at home is that you can feel comfortable in your own environment. Everyone comes to you, rather than you having to arrange for kids to all head to a different venue. Your home is also flexible. You can set the rules about numbers, what happens, decorations, what time the event starts and so much more. You gain a lot more control over your event.
The Challenges of Hosting at Home
Of course, there are some challenges that you should be aware of before hosting a party at home. When you host at home, you are going to be entirely responsible for the cleanup after the venet. Kids can be messy, so this may mean spending a good day tidying and clearing, or even hiring specialist equipment, such as a carpet cleaning machine, in the event of accidents such as kids being sick or wetting themselves. When you have a party in your own home, you are also opening your home up - and home address up - to everyone invited, which some people don’t enjoy, as they prefer their privacy.
Set Yourself a Budget
First and foremost, you need to make sure that you set a budget for the party. All too many of us don’t do this and end up spending a fortune on non-essential elements of the day. By setting a budget, you will ensure that you spend within your limits and that you can keep things more manageable.
Creating an Invite List and Invites
The next step you should take is deciding who will be invited to this party. Be reasonable with numbers. Consider the size and capacity of your home, as well as the number of adults who would be required to supervise the kids in attendance. Once you’ve decided on numbers, you should also make sure that nobody feels left out. If your kid is inviting people from their class, it’s best to either keep numbers very low (a couple of really close friends) or invite the whole class. It’s never nice being the only kid who wasn’t picked to attend. When sending out invites, make sure to include all necessary information. This should include your address, the date, start and end times and contact information for an RSVP. It’s also advisable that you add an RSVP on dietary requirements, to ensure you can meet every kid’s needs.
Plan Food
Chances are, you’re going to be providing food. For kids parties, finger foods tend to be best. They are non fuss and everyone can help themselves to what they want. Of course, bear in mind all dietary requirements. If you’re cooking, you may need to substitute some ingredients to accommodate, such as substitutes for brown rice flour or vegetarian and vegan options.
Consider Entertainment
How are all the kids going to keep themselves occupied for hours at your home? You’re going to need to come up with some sort of entertainment. Many people opt to keep things outdoors for ease and less mess and damage. If you’re doing this and have the space, you may want to book a bouncy castle. You could create party games, such as pin the tail on the donkey, pass the parcel or a pinata. You should also make sure that there’s a means of playing music.
These are just some starter steps, but hopefully, each will help you on the way to hosting the best kids party from home possible!
