3 Ways to Improve Your Relationship

I believe that all relationships could use some form of improvement. No matter if you think that you have the perfect relationship, or if you are struggling, you can find a way to make your relationship better. Here are a few ways to improve your relationship, to make sure that it is strong for years to come:

Roll with the changes

The thing with relationships is that you are constantly changing as individuals, and as a couple. If you do not roll with the changes and adapt to them, it will make it very hard to improve your relationship. If you’ve struggled with this in the past, try to figure out why you’ve had those struggles and have a game plan on how to start rolling with the past and future changes going forward!

Go on regular date nights

I get it… you are busy! But, the most foolproof way to guarantee that you make time for each other, to improve your relationship, is to set a night every month dedicated to doing just that. Regardless of if you’re looking to spice up your relationship or wanting an activity that doesn’t include Netflix, the commitment to go on a date is one night, but the happiness that comes from it will last much longer. Hire a babysitter, save up your cash, and have some fun!

Talk with a counselor

Looking for Atlanta couples therapy? Search no further than Restorative Counseling Services! They say that individuals, couples, and families thrive when they experience excellent therapeutic care in a warm and safe environment. I happen to agree with them! They also say, “We use evidence-based techniques to engage clients in talk therapy, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of who they really are, where they came from, and where they want to go. In addition to helping clients gain clarity and understanding, we are incredibly passionate about providing clients with practical, real-life tools to take their newfound insight and create change in their lives immediately. It is this two-pronged approach of process work and skills development that helps our clients not only get better faster, but start living more meaningful and satisfying lives today.”

When it comes to relationship counseling specifically, they offer two different types: for couples or families in crisis or experiencing distress, they recommend Emotionally Focused Therapy. For couples (dating, engaged, or married) that want to understand more about their strengths and weaknesses through a formalized assessment, they recommend their Prepare and Enrich opportunity. They say that it is an excellent option for couples who are seeking premarital counseling.

According to Restorative Counseling, most people do not reach out for therapy until their relationship is at a breaking point. “Research shows that most couples do not reach out for therapy until they have been unhappy in their marriage for 6+ years. Sometimes people don’t ask for help sooner because they believe myths such as, “If we need counseling then we probably just shouldn’t be together” or “It’s just not bad enough for us to need to talk to someone”. Counseling absolutely can help relationships in crisis. But it can also help strengthen healthy relationships and prevent small issues from becoming larger problems in the future.” This is a great point because I truly believe that no matter if you think your relationship is very strong, or if you are in trouble, you could benefit from therapy in some way. I truly do!
