How to Make This A Summer of Self Care

School is finally out and the official summer season is here with all of its promises for days at the pool, sleeping in, and outdoor backyard barbeques. And while that all sounds amazing, it can also be exhausting if your entire focus is on helping everyone else enjoy their summer without equal time for meeting your own needs.

Make this summer one of self-care by incorporating these four ideas into your summer plans!

Make your own summer bucket list

If you’re a parent, it’s easy to spend an entire summer entertaining your kids and never make time for yourself. This year, make your own summer bucket list full of things you want to do without the kids. Maybe it’s taking a trip with girlfriends, a solo vacation, just a day trip to the local spa with no dinner responsibilities later in the day. Take some time to put yourself first this summer as an act of true self-care.

Renew your focus on health goals

It’s likely been almost six months since you made any New Year resolutions. If you started the year determined to focus on your health, it’s time to renew that commitment. Summer is a great time to find an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables at your local farmer’s market or grocery store, or you can grow a few of your favorites in a backyard garden.

Summer is also a perfect time to explore some new outdoor activities. Join a group of friends for a kayaking adventure or choose a local trail to hike. Any kind of outdoor activity that gets your heart rate up and helps you break a sweat is a great place to start. Don’t forget to take along your favorite fitness accessories too to track those calories burned or listen to your favorite playlist on the go!

Create extended morning or evening routines

The summer season can be hard on your skin from too much sun exposure or spending more time in the pool. Try creating a new morning or evening skincare routine and stretching it out for 30 or minutes. Instead of rushing through washing your face and applying moisturizer, take your time with an extra exfoliator or skin-soothing mask.

You can also use this time to get an up-close look to clean out your pores, do an all-over skincare check, and evaluate what type of professional skincare treatments you want to explore. Regular visits to a dermatologist or esthetician are critical for maintaining a youthful and healthy glow and getting ahead of aging issues. If you’re looking for a more permanent solution to persistent or emerging wrinkles, the best botox treatment will help you smooth out facial lines and wrinkles and prevent new ones from forming.

Learn something new without an agenda

Women tend to only learn new things when they are focused on achieving a specific goal or getting ahead at work. But learning something new just for the sake of learning has significant benefits to both mental and physical wellbeing

Download an app to help you finally learn that second language, take a cooking class, or head outdoors and take up a new sport, all for the simple joy of learning.

The summer season passes in the blink of an eye -- just three short months before the fall emerges with all of its back-to-school specials, looming holidays, and colder weather forcing us indoors. Let this summer be one of self-care and discover how incredible it is to put yourself at the center of the summer plan this year!
