How to Cheer up a Loved One That Lives Abroad

There’s no denying that being away from people that you love can be hard, especially during times of crisis. These days, it’s not uncommon for most folks to have relatives scattered across the globe.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has meant that it’s no longer easy or even possible in some cases to hop on a plane and spend a couple of weeks with your loved ones abroad, and it’s probably going to be a while before “things” get back to normal.

If a loved one lives far away from you and they’re going through a rough time at the moment, how can you cheer them up from a distance?

Here are some suggestions that are sure to bring a smile to your loved one’s face and help them forget about their tough times, at least temporarily:

Send Them a Care Package

You might not think it at first, but sending your loved ones a care package is a thoughtful way to show them that you understand that they’re going through a tough time. It’s a very personal and customizable gesture and one you can easily arrange.

What should you include in the care package? Sweet snacks and treats are always a welcome gift by anyone’s standards, but you could also include other items that you know your relatives will enjoy and love.

Otherwise, you could arrange for a local supermarket to deliver a selection of goods, such as fresh produce or meats.

Send Them Some Flowers

One of the most well-known ways to cheer anyone up is by giving them a floral bouquet! These days, you can now go online and send flowers to virtually any destination in the world. All you need to do is select your flowers, write a greeting card note, and pay for your order.

What’s impressive about flower delivery services is you can choose what you want online, and a local florist delivers your order, prepared in your loved one’s local area! Theoretically, you can even have flowers sent the same day to specific destinations.

You could also have the florist include other items as part of a gift collection, such as a box of chocolates. It’s also often possible to have the flowers presented in a decorative vase rather than a plastic or cardboard box.

Call Them

Lastly, today’s digital world makes it easy for people to communicate with each other through text-based messaging services. You can send instant and free messages to anyone worldwide, and they can converse with you in the same way.

Unfortunately, some people forget the fact they can still make good old-fashioned telephone calls. Calling your loved ones is an excellent way to put a smile on their faces, especially if you haven’t heard each other’s voices in a while.

Telephone calls are also a good idea if you’ve got relatives that don’t use the Internet or perhaps cannot do so due to proper Internet connectivity in their area.
