Most people wish they had a picture-perfect body, but the truth is, it’s an impossible dream. Imperfections are part of what makes us human, and our love handles, crooked teeth, and birthmarks are things to be embraced, not banished and hidden away. Nor is there any universal ideal of a perfect body, as it differs from person to person and culture to culture.
No matter how many times you go to the gym or how healthy your diet is, you should never let the pursuit of your ideal body get in the way of your happiness and mental health. Many people fixate on losing weight and obtaining the elusive thigh gap and neglect their own wellbeing in the process. This subsequently leads to low self-esteem, reduced confidence, and anxiety. The happiest people in the world are not those with the most toned physiques and lowest body fat percentage: they are those who prioritize the important things in life that really matter. To help you boost your confidence and self-esteem, here are three tips to help you love your body.
Change your attitude towards your body
Being healthy, both physically and mentally, is the most important thing you should aim for, not something so fleeting and shallow as looks. But once you make an effort to improve your health, you will find that not only will your body naturally change, but your attitude towards it will be completely different too. You will come to realize that your body is a fascinating, amazing machine that can achieve anything you set your mind to. It doesn’t matter whether you have a six-pack or not, as long as you take care of yourself. Once you come to realize this, you will come to realize that the perfect body is not the thinnest or the most muscular: it is the one you have now.
Make exercise a part of your life
It’s perfectly possible to have body fat and still be fit and well. Similarly, you can starve yourself to a size zero and be incredibly unhealthy. So if you are obsessed with changing your body type then you are focusing on the wrong things. Rather than fixating on calories and poring over that body contouring consent form, start making physical activity a part of your life. A regular exercise regime will make you feel good about yourself while realizing all the incredible things your body can achieve. If you want to, you can use it to climb a mountain or run a marathon. That’s a great deal more impressive than looking good in a bikini.
Avoid toxic people
The people you love will always make you feel good about who you are, and never expect you to look or be a certain way. But there are always a small number of negative types who like to judge others and make you feel bad. Cast out these people from your life and endeavor to only spend time with those who have a positive influence on you.
