Spring Fashion Tips for 2020

It may not feel like it, but winter is finally retreating. The days are getting brighter and warmer and the sun is staying with us for longer. It’s time to shake off the SAD and lean less heavily on those winter fashion staples. It’s time to tentatively start investing in the fundamentals of your spring wardrobe and planning how you’ll look fabulous in the soon-to-be-ample sunshine. Whether you want to get ahead of the fashion curve in 2020 or are simply seeking a little extra inspiration, here are some spring fashion tips to help you shrug off the last of winter’s gloom and stride like a boss into spring…

Sustainability is in this year!

Before we get into specifics, it’s fair to say that sustainable fashion has never been more en vogue or more important. We’re more aware than ever of the danger fast fashion poses both to people and our planet. As such, whichever of the trends below you indulge in, make sure you buy from brands which promote sustainability, look after their workers and use organic, fair trade and natural materials. Return of the disco collar

After enjoying a brief resurgence in the early to mid-90s the 70s disco collar is back and completely unabashed. Just make sure you don’t accidentally stab anyone with it in a crowded elevator.

Anyone for crochet?

Yup, crochet is back, baby! But this ain’t your grandmother’s chunky knitwear! This spring will see a rise in gorgeous, sleek and ultra feminine dresses that, on closer inspection are in fact bold uses of this time honored hand stitching technique. Of course, cardigans will also be joining in the fun, but they’ll chiefly be used to accessorize the dresses. 

Crochet is a neat encapsulation of the fashion industry’s attempt to slow itself down and embrace sustainability.

Did somebody say hot pants?

It’s time to get working on your squats, ladies because hot pants are back with a vengeance. An we’re not just talking denim cutoffs either. We’re talking high waists, tight fits and an incredible range of colors, styles and fabrics including spandex and rag n bone. Take a page from Chanel’s book and pair with high denier black tights for those crisp spring days.

And finally… It’s time to embrace your inner 90s kid because fluoro yellows, pinks, greens and oranges are likely to be big players in spring 2020. Juxtaposition is the name of the game here, so try combining bold fluoro statement pieces with sober blacks, whites and tans to really make sure they pop.
