10 Easy Tricks to Clean Your Home

Household cleaning is hardly something that one would look forward to but it’s a dirty job that has to be done. Fortunately, there are now plenty of ways to make cleaning tasks easier for everyone. Aside from modern tools and techniques, there are professional cleaning services that can handle tough cleaning jobs. You can also make household cleaning less challenging with these 10 easy tricks to clean your home.

  1. Tap some magic from baking soda. Get rid of dirt, stains, and foul smelling odors by tapping into the cleaning properties of baking soda. Sprinkle baking soda on your mattress or couch to help remove dirt and foul odors. Let the powder sit for 20 minutes then vacuum your mattress.  You can also mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 liter of water to remove dirt and stain from fridge interior and other surfaces.
  2. Freshen-up with lemon. Lemon juice is an effective cleanser and disinfectant that can be used around the house. But aside from giving your home a fresh clean look, lemon is also a great air freshener. Slice a lemon and toss it in your garbage disposal unit to neutralize foul odors. You can also boil lemon rind in water to eliminate lingering odors from cooking fish and other smelly dishes.
  3. Let your steel shimmer with Olive Oil. Make your stainless steel surfaces and appliances shine with the use of olive oil. Dab some olive oil on a clean cloth and use it to wipe off grime and stain from stainless steel surfaces and sink. Aside from getting a shimmery finish, it also protects steel surfaces from dirt and water stains.
  4. Use salt water for a cleaner sponge.  Soak your kitchen sponge in salt water at night-time and rinse it the following day to prevent accumulation of dirt and soap residue. If you want to disinfect, immerse the sponge in clean water and put it in the microwave for 2 minutes on high heat setting.
  5. Get a grip on drips with refrigerator liners. Drips and spills inside the refrigerator should be dealt with immediately. Otherwise, you run the risk of bacteria growth and having foul odours in your fridge. You can save time and effort in cleaning your refrigerators by putting liners on your shelves. These handy mats will help prevent sauce or food debris from sticking to your refrigerator interior. Simply replace them with fresh ones when they get soiled and you’ll be spared from a lot of scrubbing.
  6. Rollers are better than dusters. When it comes to dusting fabric lampshades, lint rollers are more effective than dusters. Dirt and dust easily comes off and sticks to the lint roller thereby preventing it from spreading all over the shade.
  7. Run it and clean it. You do not have to clean all your kitchen appliances manually. You can clean and disinfect your dishwasher by placing lemon juice or white vinegar in a cup and running it through a hot cycle. This can remove scum, mineral deposits, grime, and musty odours from your washer. Another kitchen appliance that doesn’t require much scrubbing is the blender. Simply fill blender with warm water and a drop of dish cleansing liquid. Let it run for about half a minute or so before rinsing it with warm water.
  8. Use the power of vinegar to clean your shower. Remove mineral deposits and stains from your shower head by soaking it in vinegar overnight. This will help loosen mineral deposits that may have formed over time and remove other stains around it. Wipe away loosened dirt from the head with a sponge and clean remaining dirt in shower holes using a toothbrush. Rinse it by running hot tap water for a couple of minutes.
  9. A squeegee makes window cleaning easy. Having the right tool makes it faster and easier to tackle cleaning tasks. When it comes to cleaning windows and glass surfaces, the squeegee helps you get the job done with less effort. It easily removes excess liquid from the glass for a quick dry and streak free finish. Just remember to wipe in a vertical direction first then finish with horizontal movements. You may also want to minimise the use of soap or cleaning products to save time on rinsing the windows.
  10. Tackle your clutter immediately. It takes twice the effort to clean the house when you have plenty of clutter. Dusting your furniture and surfaces is a lot easier if you don’t have to remove stuff from it. A well organised storage can help you manage your clutter and keep your house clean.
