The Thinsulin Program: How to color-code foods to lose weight, burn fat

Dieting can be complicated and confusing -- which often leads to discouragement, and giving up.

But since high insulin levels cause the body to store fat while low levels cause it to burn fat -- as Charles Nguyen and bariatric internist Tu Song Anh Nguyen explain in their new book with health journalist Mary Ann Marshall, The Thinsulin Program -- there’s an easy way to keep things simple and stay on track... {Book provided for review/feature consideration}
Color-code your foods according to how they affect your insulin levels, and make choices accordingly, as follows:

Red = STOP!

These are the foods that have a high glycemic index (GI), and will cause insulin levels to spike. They include:

Sweets and desserts
Soft drinks and fruit juice
Snack foods
Grains
Potatoes and other root vegetables
Corn
Carrots
Beets
Mangos
Pineapples

Yellow = Proceed with caution.

These foods are fine in moderation since they have a low GI and are unlikely to spike insulin levels when consumed in moderation. They include:

Apples
Oranges
Grapes
Berries
Raw nuts

Green = Go for it!

Because these foods don’t cause insulin levels to spike,you can have as much as you want. For example:

Protein such as beef, pork, chicken, seafood, and egg whites
Vegetables, except the 4 listed as “Red.”
Tofu
Lentils

For nearly 2 decades, Drs Nguyen and Nguyen have used this approach at their specialized clinics in southern California to help thousands of patients lose excess weight and keep it off for good. It is the focus of their new book, The Thinsulin Program.

About The Thinsulin Program

High-fat, high-sugar foods get most of the blame for weight gain and obesity. Hence the popularity of the low-fat trend and diets such as Atkins and South Beach. But what if these approaches were missing the real secret to healthy and sustainable weight loss?

Psychiatrist Charles Nguyen and bariatric internist Tu Song Anh Nguyen have discovered that insulin rather than calories is the real culprit in weight gain and obesity -- and is therefore the true key to weight loss. In The Thinsulin Program, they are joined by health journalist Mary Ann Marshall in explaining why: when we eat foods that raise our insulin level, the body stores fat; when we lower our insulin level, the body naturally burns fat. The book also shares the proven, science-based, two-stage weight loss plan Drs Nguyen and Nguyen have developed comprised of an active phase that controls and lowers insulin levels, enabling dramatic results, and a passive phase centered on a new, insulin-driven way of thinking about food that will keep excess weight off for good.
