Double-platinum recording artist, Mýa, shows off her great form on the cover of the Women’s Running magazine August issue, available on newsstands today! The 34-year-old marathon finisher talks about her desire to continually challenge herself and how a New Year’s resolution has become her passion.
During her cover shoot, Mýa modeled a Roxy outfit and ASICS Gel-Electro 33 shoes while The Ramones and The Black Keys played on the stereo. When asked if she’d rather listen to her own music, she laughed and said. “I think I’ve heard it enough!”
In the article, the singer spills about going vegetarian and how completing a marathon was her ultimate challenge. Other tidbits from her interview {available in the August issue, on stands starting July 22}:
· Why the New York City Marathon was her 2011 New Year’s resolution: “It was a test of my own strength and will” . . . “I wanted to prove to myself that I was still physically healthy and that I could do something to challenge myself.”
· How going vegetarian for a year changed her outlook for good: “There’s a stigma attached to vegetarian food. My friends would say, ‘Oh, gosh, that’s no fun” . . . “But I discovered so many great dishes that I eat habitually now, because they’re delicious.”
· Why she likes to train outdoors: “Getting outside and getting in touch with nature is such a spiritual cleanse for me.”
· How that New Year’s resolution became a lifestyle: “I am so happy and proud to call myself a runner.”
· What She Really Eats: Mya shares snapshots of her daily meat-free meals, including her favorite smoothie recipe.
Becoming a runner is actually on my list of fitness goals and I was/am a huge fan of Mya's, so I will definitely be picking this issue of Women's Running magazine. How about you? Until next time...
