Mio Double Buff ($33; available at mioskincare.com) is a dual enzyme exfoliator - meaning that it uses physical granules to scrub (perfectly rounded spheres of pumice, lava, and bamboo), as well as papaya and pineapple enzymes. This potent combination instantly softens and hydrates for skin that feels brand new. It works to perfect and brighten uneven skin tone, while the special, fine formula prevents ‘cheap scrub skin damage’ that can happen with harsher scrubs.
It was love at first scrub for me. My skin looked and felt dramatically different after my first use. Not only do the ingredients make this exfoliator unique, the instructions tell you to use it while you're dry - before you enter the shower or tub. I stood on a towel outside of my shower {I was concerned there may be a mess, but there was not, so the towel wasn't necessary} and used the scrub from my ankles up. The scent is quite pleasant - a mild, slightly citrus fragrance. The scrub felt invigorating and actually left me with a tingling sensation all over my skin, but it did not feel harsh or overly abrasive. Once I stepped in the shower, it rinsed off quite easily and I could tell at that point that if was indeed very effective, because my skin felt super soft right then. I did follow up with a shower gel and applied a body oil after getting out of the shower, but I didn't have to follow it up with my usual slathering of body cream or lotion. I think that the scrub, in addition to sloughing off dead and dry skin to leave a new softer layer, also allowed my skin to absorb the body oil much better.
I'm definitely a fan! If there was one caveat, I'd say I wish there was more product in the package. Perhaps I was a little heavy handed in my application {and it's possible I have more skin and curves to cover than average}, but I feel like I had to use quite a bit of product to cover my whole body. I may have 2 or 3 more applications left in the bottle. Now, considering that this is not a product that you have to use everyday {I'd say once a week should be sufficient}, or maybe you can use it to spot treat particularly scaly areas and not all over, I think it is well worth a try since it could provide about a month or so of use. And now that skin will soon be more bare as we go in to the warmer weather months {thank goodness!}, Double Buff us the perfect prep before applying self-tanner. This means the tanning lotion will go on without streaking or leaving you with orange knees and toes. It is also an excellent prep for your skin in general, whether you're slipping into a bikini, short shorts, a tank top, or sundress - skin always looks better and healthier when it is smooth and exfoliated. Until next time...
