Mindy Kaling: Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) (A Be Chic Literate Review)

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling

I love The Office {so sad that it's coming to an end TOMORROW} and I had heard so many great things about Mindy Kaling's book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns), so I was super stoked to read it. Here's the synopsis...
From the book jacket:

Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: the obedient child of immigrant professionals, a timid chubster afraid of her own bike, a Ben Affleck–impersonating Off-Broadway performer and playwright, and, finally, a comedy writer and actress prone to starting fights with her friends and coworkers with the sentence “Can I just say one last thing about this, and then I swear I’ll shut up about it?”

Perhaps you want to know what Mindy thinks makes a great best friend (someone who will fill your prescription in the middle of the night), or what makes a great guy (one who is aware of all elderly people in any room at any time and acts accordingly), or what is the perfect amount of fame (so famous you can never get convicted of murder in a court of law), or how to maintain a trim figure (you will not find that information in these pages). If so, you’ve come to the right book, mostly!

In Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, Mindy invites readers on a tour of her life and her unscientific observations on romance, friendship, and Hollywood, with several conveniently placed stopping points for you to run errands and make phone calls. Mindy Kaling really is just a Girl Next Door—not so much literally anywhere in the continental United States, but definitely if you live in India or Sri Lanka.

Now, I'm not gonna lie: it took three periods {over quite a few months} of me picking up the book and reading a few chapters, not getting into it, and subsequently putting it down for a long while {basically giving up on it}. I'm so glad I picked it up that third time-at this point I was at the section about Hollywood and from that point on, I couldn't put the book down! It was at this point that I feel like I bonded with Mindy. Maybe it's because since picking up the book this last time, I had become a fan of The Mindy Project {her comedy show on FOX} and could actually hear her voice as I read her words and had a better sense of her personality, but this time I was literally laughing out loud at the book and even sharing little tidbits with my hubby.

Bottom line: Mindy is hilarious and Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)  is so worth picking up! I highly recommend it and am seriously looking forward to her next one {I hope there is a "next" one}. Not only that, I feel like I need to go back a rewatch every movie I've seen her in and I will definitely be watching anything she is a part of in the future.

Have you read Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?...? What did you think? What are you reading now? What are you reading next? My inquiring mind wants to know! Leave a comment below and let me know what you think! Until next time...
