Over You by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus AKA: Be Chic Literate, Tween Edition!

This "Be Chic Literate" post is a little different, because instead of me reading the book and doing the review, I gave the book to my 12 year old daughter (a voracious reader). I figured that her take on this particular book would be more appropriate. I hope you enjoy!

I'm happy to say that I have a long history with the authors of Over You, Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus. They were the first authors I ever reached out to {and that responded} about reviewing a book {I reviewed The Nanny Returns and interviewed the duo way back when}, and so they are partly responsible for my Be Chic Literate series.

Their latest book is actually a young adult novel, and as such, I opted to hand it over to my budding young adult to read and review. Before we get into her take on the novel, here's a brief synopsis:

When seventeen-year-old Max Scott got her heart broken she didn't just sit at home sobbing into her ice cream and obsessing over her ex, Hugo's, latest Facebook postings. Well, actually she did. But she also decided that no girl should have to be tortured like that, so she read through all the psych books, Oprah transcripts, and historical precedents she could get her hands on and came up with a foolproof program to get over being dumped.

These days, Max is the go-to guru for heartbroken high-school girls all over NYC. But when Hugo shows up in her neighborhood, suddenly Max is so busy trying to avoid her own ex that she isn't able to help anyone else with theirs. As Hugo invades her life all over again, Max's carefully controlled world starts to unravel. With her clients' hearts hanging in the balance, Max will have to do the seemingly impossible: get over her ex once and for all.

Here's what Peyton thought about the book:

"I liked Over You a lot! It's about Max Scott, a girl who went through a really bad breakup a few months back. After going through her rough breakup, Max developed a system and a business called Ex Inc. She helps her clients get through their bad breakups. Everything is looking good for Max; she has a good chance of getting into her dream school, NYU, and her business is going great. But then her ex comes back to town, and not just for a visit like Max hopes. She finds out that he has also applied to NYU!"

"This book was very funny and fun to read. It is a great story that makes you want to keep reading more. Overall, I highly recommend this book, because I really enjoyed reading it!"

So there you have it! Do have a tween in your life that enjoys reading? Or do you enjoy them yourself?  Do you find posts like this helpful? What are you currently reading? My inquiring mind wants to know! Leave a comment below and let me know what you think! Until next time...
