I Think I'm In Love! AKA: Paul Mitchell's Curls Line (A CGC)

Paul Mitchell's Curls Line was provided to me for the purpose of review by Paul Mitchell and NaturallyCurly.com

This CGC will be a little different because instead of just discussing a single product, I'm covering a whole line (with the exception of the Beachy Texture Cream Gel, which I will discuss in a future CGC). Just so you know, my overall opinion of the Paul Mitchell Curls Line is that it ROCKS!!!

Spring Loaded Detangling Shampoo(MRSP: $16.98) This ultra-moisturizing, 100% sulfate free shampoo gently cleanses and conditions curls without roughing up the cuticle. The rich lather leaves hair soft and manageable so curls always look their best.

Ingredients- Water (Eau, Aqua), Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Glycerin, Cocamide MEA, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Myristamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Glycol Distearate, Laureth-4, PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, Divinyldimethicone/Dimethicone Copolymer, C12-13 Pareth-23, C12-13 Pareth-3, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Polyquaternium- 7, Polyquaternium-59, Butylene Glycol, Amodimethicone, C11-15 Pareth-7, Laureth-9,Trideceth- 12, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Phenyl Trimethicone, Polyquaternium-67, Tetrasodium EDTA, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Magnesium Nitrate, Magnesium Chloride, Fragrance (Parfum), Limonene
(sulfate free, paraben free, protein free)

My Take- Let me preface this by saying that if you use the Paul Mitchell system all together (the shampoo, leave in, and one of the stylers) they work SPECTACULARLY together. The results are phenomenal! However, though the shampoo cleans the hair and scalp well, it does claim to be detangling (it *is* in the name of the product) and it really doesn't. At all. It's actually quite thick and a bit sticky and that's not exactly conducive to provided the slip necessary to detangle. But it smells great and it cleans well and I like it. Just not as a detangler. And I kinda don't like that it says that it will detangle (because the idea of a shampoo that detangles is really novel and neat), but it doesn't. At least, not for me. But it's a great shampoo. So arm yourself with a separate conditioner and enjoy it!

Full Circle Leave In Treatment (MSRP $17.98) Replenish every curl with this dreamy, creamy leave-in treatment. This lightweight, do it all formula hydrates, detangles, tames frizz and helps protect against damage. Provides moisture, frizz control, and acts as an anti-humectant.

Ingredients- Water (Eau, Aqua), Cetearyl Alcohol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Propylene Glycol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Glyceryl Stearate, Behenyl Alcohol, Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Lecithin, Lauryl Alcohol, Fragrance (Parfum), Citral, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Myristyl Alcohol, Panthenol, Cetyl Alcohol, Methylisothiazolinone, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Butylene Glycol
(sulfate free, paraben free, protein free, glycerin free)

My Take- I LOVE THIS STUFF!!! I used it on my own 3a/b curls after using the shampoo and it was just what I needed to detangle (since the shampoo didn't do it). It's just the right consistency for a leave in, not too thin, not too thick, and it coated my tresses oh so well. It made them soft and bouncy and not at all heavy or greasy. I love the delicate smell of this concoction and even used it to detangle my 2 year old daughter's hair! It worked quite well, but then I thought, the more I use on her, the less I'll have for myself... I love this stuff so much that not only might I have to be selfish with it, I may even have to ration it out and save it to use for special occasions. Yes, it's that good!

Twirl Around Crunch Free Curl Definer (MSRP $21.98) Define, separate and tame unruly curls and waves into perfect ringlets. This dual formula of hydrating cream and smoothing gel creates soft, shiny, frizz-free spirals that won't get crunchy or stiff. Adds softness, definition, and shine.

Ingredients- Water (Eau, Aqua), Glycerin, Isohexadecane, VP/Dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate Copolymer, Cetyl Alcohol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Stearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Cetrimonium Chloride, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Sodium PCA, Fragaria Ananassa (Strawberry) Seed Oil, Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil, TriticumVulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Sambucus Nigra (Elderberry) Seed Oil, Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant) Bud Wax, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Polysorbate 60, Panthenol, Phenyl Trimethicone, Sclerotium Gum, Carbomer, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Aminomethyl Propanol, Polyquaternium-4, Quaternium-80, Disodium EDTA, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Methylisothiazolinone, Fragrance (Parfum), Benzyl Benzoate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Citral, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Geraniol, Hydroxycitronellal, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Limonene (sulfate free, paraben free)

My Take- I don't like gels, but I love this stuff, so that should tell you how good it is! It gave me great curl definition and shine and no crunch at all. Just lovely, long lasting hold. I really put this product to the test, because it happen to be overcast, humid and rainy when I used it and it kept my hair completely frizz free. I love how it was able to control and define my curls, allowing it to form into perfect little ringlets, but my hair still had great body and movement. This may just be a new addition to my holy grail list!

Some say that the proof is in the pudding, so this is what my hair looked like after I used the Paul Mitchell Curls Line as mentioned above...

Until next time...

  2. thank you for including ingredients! I've been waiting for these to be in stores, after seeing a magazine ad; but it's been hard to track-down if they contain silicones or not (I can't use products with them). Even more excited to try the leave-in conditioner now that I see it's silicone-free, woo!

    1. I'm so glad that you found this post helpful! Honestly, I was super impressed with this line, but the leave in conditioner was my absolute favorite out of the bunch. I hope you that you enjoy it as much as I do!
