But eventually that old mistress fine fragrance beckoned me, so I once again flirted with the idea of having one signature fragrance. I started with Michael Kors, and actually thought that I could be true to it. But then I discovered Black by Kenneth Cole and I was in love again. The season changed and I went head over heels for an Escada scent (and many of Escada's predecessors since). Sephora, in all of their genius, came up with the scent sampler (for $50 you get a ton of samples and an atomizer, you try all the scents, pick your fave and then bring in a voucher for a full size bottle of your choice) and I was in heaven. That's how I came to know Stella, Ferragamo incanto, and DKNY Be Delicious. Then there was Issey Miyake, L.A.M.B, Blue, Ralph, and True Religion.
So basically, I've let go of that dream of having that one signature scent that I'm known by (I was always so intrigued with the notion of being known, identified, recognized by my scent alone), and have accepted the fact that I am a perfume ho. I must always have coterie of fragrance on hand so that I can choose one based on my mood, the weather, the season, and what I am wearing (because I can't possibly wear the same scent with black that I do with red). And my nose continues to fall in love every time I get a magazine or take a trip to the mall. Allow me to introduce you to my new loves...

Lola-Marc Jacobs

Eau Mega-Viktor & Rolf
And now, not only do they have these divine fragrances in gorgeous, colorful, crystalline bottles, they also come in other incarnations. Both Very Holly wood and Lola can be gotten in solid form contained in cute cocktail rings...

And, though I can't find it on line, according to the September issue of In Style, Very Hollywood also comes in the form of an adorable ink pen ( as in the ink is scented so that when you write you can smell the fragrance; isn't that the most fabulous way to script love letters and personal correspondences?).
Sigh... So many pretty scents, so little time. And as soon as I think I'm settled and satisfied with my collection, inevitably there comes a new generation of olfactory pleasers. What are your favorite fragrances? Are you a slut like me or faithfully married to your one and only signature scent? Let me know, I'd love to hear from you! 'Til next time...

I looooove the Marc Jacobs ring, but I can't get it cause I'm in Aus :( Do you know who else would have it?
ReplyDeletemmm i love perfume too! i also try to just stick to one signature scent, but i love trying new ones so much that it's hard! for the past couple years i've been pretty good though- i stick to serge lutens daim blond in the winter, and l'artisan la chasse aux papillons in summer, and that's it! but now you've given me a whole list of new things to try... ~joelle
ReplyDeleteI definitly have one scent, Stella. I love the idea of perfumes, but it just doesn't seem to excite me that much. However, rather than being known for your one signature scent, it is perhaps even more individual to be known for always smelling sweet, but different each time, you are like nose candy for everyone around you! ps. super fun post!
ReplyDeleteI want one of those rings!
ReplyDeleteOohhh...I am ALMOST faithful, I am using Kenzo's L'Eau most of the time but I also love Estee Lauder's Bali Dream & Escada's Into the Blue and Dior Addict 2 and, and, and.................!!!! The only reason why I don't OWN all of these is because as a rather poor student, I can't afford it. But I guess once I earn enough, I will be a serious perfume ho too :D
ReplyDeletethis has by far been one of my favorite posts yet. I LOVE fragrance. Who am I kidding, I love EVERYTHING beauty related! But there is something about the sense of smell; i smell EVERYTHING and purchases are ultimately determined by how a product smells. Thanks so much for the feedback, lovelies! I don't think I can be as strong as some of you and commit myself to just one or two fragrances. My nose is too easily enticed!

Girl I am a straight Perfume slut! LOL ( I love it!). I switch scents like I switch socks and I rarely stick to one for more than a few days! What I put on depends on my mood (for instance, when I want to feel like a Diva, I put on Baby Phat Goddess). I did a blog post on my fav scents as well so when I came across this I just had to comment!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post and know that you are not alone! :)

Your post made my laugh because it was like you were describing me! I like the style of your writing, it is very honest.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think of the new YSL Parisienne? I feel like a need a really girly one at the moment even though I usually find a new musky fragrance for Autumn.

Minna- Thanks so much for the compliments. I try to right like a speak and to be entertaining so it's good to see that my technique is working! I haven't had a chance to smell the new YSL yet, but I am officially in love with the new Dolce and Gabbana Rose The One. I could swim in that stuff! oh and Stella McCartney Nude... there I go again!

Although I have to be careful with scents with my allergic family members, but when I can get away with it I have to say I'm pretty faithful to my dear Marc Jacobs. :)
